ABSTRACT:
The Zn(II) and Fe(II) Complexes were prepared by the action of equimolar ethanolic solutions with the ligands (HL1, HL2 and HL3) with ethanolic metal solutions. Where HL1= 4-N,N-diethylamine-pent-3-ene-2-one, HL2=4-N,N-di n-propylamine-pent-3-ene-2-one and HL3=4-N,N-dicyclohexylamine-pent-3-ene-2-one. The complexes prepared, were characterized by IR, UV and atomic absorption spectroscopy. The metal complexes and Ligands were screened against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria to assess their antimicrobial activity by disc diffusion method. The Ligands were absolutely inactive against bacteria where as the complex of Zn (HL1) has significant action on both bacteria, which show a good potential as bactericide and other complexes have normal antiseptic character.
