ABSTRACT:
Fretting is the oscillatory movement of small amplitude which occurs between two contact surfaces that result in sliding of one face over the other. It causes wear and surface damage to both the mating parts. Fretting occurs in dovetail root of gas turbine engines. Fretting fatigue causes weakening of the material caused by the repeated action of cyclic loads finally leading to failure of the component. The dovetail root of turbine engine is one such case where fretting fatigue failure is very common. Under the action of centrifugal loads and vibrational loads, fretting fatigue occurs mainly between the blade root and the disc. Fixtures are the mechanical devices which are used for holding the components during manufacturing and other machining operations. This paper aims to develop the fretting fatigue fixture for dovetail root of a gas turbine engine to induce fretting behavior.
