Functionally graded materials are the special class of materials having unique characteristics. An FGM is a heterogeneous material that consists of various regions of different materials or even of the same material in different regions. They are graded property materials having a wide range of unexplored potential applications in various technological areas such as aerospace, medicine, structural and chemical industry, defence, energy, automobile. They can be also used as gas adsorbents, templates, chemical sensors, nano-pipes, actuators, catalyst supports, probes, nano-reactors etc. Due to increases interest of engineers in composite materials, the functionally graded materials have been developed and processed on large basis.
