ABSTRACT:
Friction stir welding (FSW) is a technique of joining two solid states using a tool which non consumable without melting the work piece material. Heat generated due to friction between the tool and work piece material helps in joining. The main objective of the present paper is to present an overview of the optimization techniques used for optimizing friction stir welding process parameters like rotational speed, feed rate, pin shape, axial force etc. of metals like aluminium, magnesium etc. Friction stir welding is not a technique which is based only on one parameter instead it involves number of parameters factors which help us in getting good quality defect free welds. So, a thorough study of the optimizing techniques for friction stir welding process is important. In order to use FSW process for production purposes, there is need to understand the process and its parameters which affects the mechanical properties and quality of the joints.
